True story: Years ago I connected with Avery Sharpe, longtime bassist for pianist McCoy Tyner, during Jazz Fest week in New Orleans. I had seen him play the fest, and we met for an interview at the Sheraton (I believe) on Canal Street.
Long story, short: For one reason or another, that piece never made it into the pages of Bass Player mag.
Just a few months ago, I spoke with Sharpe again, by telephone. Among other things, we talked about the trio he leads, with pianist Onaje Allan Gumbs and drummer Winard Harper, and their new CD, Autumn Moonlight.
