Mixed Metaphor of the Day: Matt Lauer, on "Today"

Matt Lauer, talking about the economic crisis with Lawrence Summers, Secretary of the Treasury under Clinton, posed this question this morning: "Has the bleeding stopped, or are there other shoes that are going to drop?"

Does he mean the the public bleeds when the economy drops those bad shoes (failing financial institutions)?

I don't think so.

Lauer, minutes later, said that Willard Scott "has got some birthdays" to share, or something.
