Jazz Tracks#5: Tampa Jazz Club Concerts at the Gorilla - New Season

Journeyman saxophonist-flutist-trumpeter Ira Sullivan (pictured, right) and pianist Lynne Arriale top the list of artists slated to play the new season of Tampa Jazz Club concerts at the Gorilla Theatre.

Valerie Gillespie, a saxophonist and singer who teaches at the USF School of Music, opens the series Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. She'll lead a quartet.

  • Oct. 12 - USF Faculty Jazz Ensemble


  • Nov. 23 - Lynne Arriale Trio


  • Jan. 11 - John Lamb Quartet, led by the one-time Duke Ellington bassist


  • Jan. 25 - Ira Sullivan. Sullivan, based in South Florida, has a recording history that dates back 55 years. He's played in bands led by Charlie Parker (!), Eddie Harris, Philly Jo Jones, and Marian McPartland; and his own bands have included Jaco Pastorius and Billy Higgins. Here's a near-complete discography.
Admission to each concert is $21; $15 for Tampa Jazz Club members; $5 for students; and free for kids.
