Yes, it's true. I just heard the news, thanks to an alert forwarded by ultimate Jazz Fest fan Swag.
Last year at this time, the St. Charles streetcars were not yet up and running, post-Katrina.
So ... color me disappointed. Guess it goes w/o saying, though, that NOLA has much bigger problems than spotty streetcar service. Here's hoping that Jazz Fest tourism will provide a much-needed financial shot in the arm to the city.
JF starts Friday, and we get to town on Thursday. Can't wait.
Here's the news:
No St Charles Streetcar during Fest
The St Charles streetcar has been running from Canal St, thru downtown, as far as Lee Circle.
But this from NORTA:ST. CHARLES/LEE CIRCLE LOOP
STREETCAR LINE TEMPORARILY OUT OF SERVICE

Work Begins on City Sidewalks Project Beginning Friday, April 20th and continuing for two weeks, the St. Charles/Lee Circle streetcar will not be in operation due to a city sidewalks project.
The Regional Transit Authority (RTA) will have St. Charles buses on the route. The Canal Streetcar, which is the one to take to the Fest, will be running as usual.
