Those headed to New York next month for the annual conference of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) might want to consider staying over an extra night to attend the memorial service for the late, great bassist Walter Booker.
The below info is from an announcement on the Jazz Times site:
There will be a "Celebration of a Life" memorial service held for Walter Booker on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, located at 619 Lexington Ave. at 54th St. in New York City.
St. Peter's Church offers jazz vespers, a jazz-infused church service, every Sunday at 5 p.m. I'll have to make a point of checking it out next time I get to NYC
